WHY YOU SHOULD NOT READ TEXTBOOKS ANYMORE

“We cannot solve problems with the same level of thinking that created them”-Albert Einstein. I am a health professional and that means that it is necessary that I am a life long learner both in my field and the world around me. I do my best to do this but in a different way from most people.

During my undergrad years, we were given recommended textbooks that served as supplements to the information that were taught in class. You may probably relate to that as well. However, the situation is different especially in our current stage of information age. The advent and improvement of technology requires that one adapt to the changing times of education and information update.

Information turnover rate has been so rapid that the production of textbooks that takes quite some time cannot keep up to the latest of information of a particular field. Day in and day out, I come across outdated methods of medical practice and medicines that are no longer recommended for people. More disturbing is the rate as which microbes are becoming resistant to antibiotics. This is alarming and one must be at the cutting edge of the most recent information to be one of the best in their chosen fields.

This does not apply only to the medical field but in any other profession that requires a special body of knowledge in order to function to the best of your ability. If you are like I was, you probably might want to refer to a textbook or lecture notes to make some references when necessary but you may be doing yourself more harm than good. The textbooks do not always work any longer and only an alternative to better sources of information.

Well, if you are fortunate to have an internet access, then there is a lot that you can do when it comes to sourcing for information. Research works, specialist authorities on subjects, meta analysis especially and other relevant journals that are recent in your professional field will give you hands on information on a particular subject. Google search can pull up the most recent and relevant information when used appropriately. This is often concise and time saving.

The advent of the internet which is increasingly available to a wider population of people is a game changer in education and life long learning. For one to be relevant and competent as a professional, the right information is necessary and the internet and other better alternatives to textbooks are necessary for professional growth and development. I have never regretted since I ditched the ‘recommended textbook’ and picked up the most recent meta-analysis that pertained to a particular subject that i am interested in. It always works and I suggest you do same.

SELF WORTH

It is important how  you value yourself. This is not an attempt to make you feel good or confident per se but it is a necessity in a world that is filled with a lot of people who look down on themselves. How do you value yourself?

How others see you or what they think of you is not as important as how you see and value yourself. Coonfidence is only enhamced by the affirmation by others but it is solely generated by self. Your confidence however depends on how you see yourself and what price tag you value yourself with.

Self worth is not the same as being filled with pride and not fueled by net worth or income or profession or social class, it is uniquely what it is-how important you see yourself to be in life, how much you matter in this world and the vacuum that will be created if you were absent in life.

Knowing how important it is to matter in life, I want to encourage you to be a person of value to this world. You may not make it to the front pages of Forbes, the stage of  Nobel prize leaurates or earn the applause and ovation at the Grammy but be essential and indespensible to someone else-a friend in need, a stranger or another person. This increases your worth and a belief system of worthiness will be kick started within the inner depths of your heart.

Be warned that, self worthiness comes with it own challenges especially lack of recognition for a good work done but that should not be your focus else you risk not going far, however with time, the seemly unimportant contributions you make to life will find  a way to reward you in the long run. Pursue self worthiness by seeking to make better yourself in order to make a contribution to this world. The feeling is never for sale.

I ask you now, how much are you willing to be worth for?

MAN’S PUZZLE

A pair of feet that supports the torso
A hardened skull that covers the brain
A twisted facade the conceals all intentions
Nothing but evil propensity of life
Hidden deep in the head of the seemly angelic

Life of man is full of mysterious stories untold
Hidden secrets that only a few comprehend
Find the meaning
Solve the puzzle
Keep the lessons

THE ATROCITIES OF WEALTH

Wealth has bought a wicked one some whip
It has stolen command
Into the hands of one that least deserve it
So the innocent suffers
At the mercy of the powered

One who once was a sheep
Turned into a hyena
Life is deceptive, tempting
Mocking all who fall prey to his devices
Not too rich Lord
Not too poor either
A prayer from a sincere soul.

BURDEN

The more the friends,
the greater the burden
Life cannot be lived alone
And on the other side,
It is burdensome to be so much alone

If the number of friends that you have are a lot
You have a lot of issues to deal with
You also have a lot of appointments and invitations to honour
If you do not honour such appointment
You are branded uncaring and such is life

ISAIAH

If my words would not fall in deaf ears
I would have changed the world
One must not assume responsibilities that are not theirs
I have seen people whose consciences
And motives powered morals have been warped
By mere passage of time
And by the attitude of the environment

I had to be safe to feel safe
By building a barricade around my properties
To work on myself and those I care about
To ignore those left to their fate to rot
I was not responsible for the troubles that
Most people go through.

TURN OVER

In times past I had no purpose
In days ago, I had no use for my talents
A pen in hand
And words in mind
Wrote about creation
Forgot the creator

In sin I swam
Once trod in angelic soles
But followed the devil’s trail in times past
Glad I see a Light
And on the path of darkness is He shone
Shackles on me all broken
Jesus sets free

Oh what peace I sense
Once again mocking at death
Fearlessly on Heaven gaze
Man has moved from death to life
Troubles world all over have an answer
Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God.
